What do our courses offer?

Our blended approach of training offers maximum opportunity for participants to learn, reflect and apply their training. We offer face-to-face training days, an online learning platform for ongoing training and in-school coaches are offered training to wrap around the participants and support their success in the in-school projects.

The NPQ programmes offer full coverage of the DfE Content and Assessment Framework drawing on skills and knowledge of our expert facilitators, all experienced school leaders, system leaders (SLEs, LLEs and NLEs) and Teaching School leads.

How will you benefit?

All successful NPQ graduates will:

  • Gain a highly valued, internationally respected, DfE accredited professional qualification
  • Know how to lead an education setting successfully, using evidence-informed approaches
  • Lead and evaluate an intervention across their own and another setting to improve outcomes for children or young people and staff
  • Develop their leadership and management skills, and their ability to work in partnership with colleagues, professionals from outside the setting, and parents and carers
  • Enhance their own and others’ personal and professional development, and
  • Gain a professional network of colleagues beyond their own setting

What do the courses cover?

Course content covers six key areas as outline in the Content and Assessment Framework from the DfE:

  • Leading with impact
  • Strategy and improvement
  • Teaching and curriculum excellence
  • Working in partnership
  • Managing resources and risks, and
  • Increasing capability

In addition, the course will help you to develop the range of leadership behaviours, identified by DfE:

  • Commitment
  • Collaboration
  • Personal drive
  • Resilience
  • Awareness
  • Integrity, and
  • Respect.

How will you be assessed?

During the courses you will lead your team to design, implement and evaluate an improvement project in your setting. Your change project must last at least two school terms. This project will be designed to:

  • Improve pupils’ progress and attainment
  • Develop your leadership skills, and
  • Grow the capability of your team.

NPQEL and NPQH participants also have to complete an additional project in a different setting.

All projects are written up and submitted for final assessment within 18 months of induction which is marked by an external provider, NPQ Online. Successful participants are then awarded their qualification.

For further information, please consult our course specific handbooks.

For teachers and leaders starting their courses from 1 April 2020 onward, this funding will cover the full course fee, provided they have not already studied for the NPQ for which they are applying.
