All students in Year 7 will be receiving a free book from the school as part of the Book Buzz reading programme, which supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure and develop a whole school reading culture.
Students were given the opportunity to choose their own book, from a selection of 17 titles, to take home and keep. The books were selected by a panel of experts, including teachers and Librarians, and designed to appeal to all students regardless of their reading level. Students were given introductions to the books in their English lessons, watching videos from the featured authors, and the books were also available for them to browse in the library before they made their choice.
We hope all Year 7 students will enjoy their Book Buzz book and that it encourages them to continue reading. All of the selected titles are available in the library for students to borrow as we know it was a tough decision for some students to make! We will be holding a competition for Year 7 students celebrating the Book Buzz titles, further details on this will be available in the new year as we would like to give students the opportunity to read their books first.
If you would like to find out more about this year’s titles, and other books that your child might enjoy, you can visit the Book Buzz website at http:// www.bookbuzz.org.uk. To find out more about the work of Book Trust Charity visit http://www.booktrust.org.uk.
There is plenty of evidence to link reading for pleasure with progress and success in both education and later life, just 15 minutes a day can make a real difference. We hope that you will support this and encourage reading time in the home and ask your child about their Book Buzz book
