Message to Year 11 & Year 13 Parents

Monday 23rd March

As we start our remote learning offer we are also unpicking the latest government guidance for how grades will be awarded to Year 11 and Year 13 students. We know this will involve teacher assessment and accurate predictions. Once we have definite guidelines in place we will share them with Year 11 and Year 13.

We have been contacted by some of you asking about the end of year prom as many have heard other schools have cancelled the event. We have not. If we need to move the prom to later in the year we will. As shared in assemblies on Thursday we will also ensure we provide Year 11 and Year 13 with a full leavers experience. We chose not to rush an experience for them on Friday for many reasons, two of these reasons link directly to the safety and well-being of our students. Firstly, the social distancing measure would have put students at risk with traditions like shirt signing etc and secondly, we have approximately 50% of students in Year 11 and Year 13 who would have missed out due to socially isolating and we wanted them to be part of the leavers experience.

I understand Miss Jenkinson, our Vice Principal of Achievement, has already contacted parents of Year 11 with some of the above information – stressing that ‘we will make it happen’ for their leavers experience – this also applies to Year 13. We will both continue to keep you all informed on developments with grades being award to students plus adaptions to leavers events as the academic year progresses.

We will continue to try our best to make the right decisions and should you have any queries please contact us at the school.

Yours sincerely

H Corbett
